Ejupi is an artist and curator of Reporting House who came up with the idea to to create an exhibition that merges the worlds of art and journalism which is the signature of the museum. He believes that video is one of the most powerful mediums since 1960s. To make this exhibition, he drew on his experience as student in Prishtina who participated in the protests in the early ’90s, and as such feels that Pristina holds a vital place in the larger narrative of European war history. He serves as a Vice Dean at the Faculty of Art and Digital Media at the University for Business and Technology in Pristina, where he mentors the next generation of artists and curators. He holds a Master degree from Arts and Space from Kingston University in UK (2013) and BA in Fine Arts from in Fine Arts in Central Saint Martin College of Art and Design in London (2002-2005).
One of Ejupi’s most significant works is the “Dead Dogs Walking” installation, presented in 2020 at Paper Gallery in Prishtina. “Dead Dogs Walking”, is an installation that explores the suffering of stray dogs and their constant fight for survival. It combines traditional mediums like painting and sculpture, with a video performance featuring a live choir, the “Siparantum Choir”. In another installation, Misioni Ekzekutoni (The Execution Mission), by using bottles as a symbol of the brutal executions during Kosovo war in 1999, specifically referencing to the massacre at Fortesa in 1999, which he worked on as a translator for news outlets in London. He has have continuously explored the relationship between art and collective trauma. As the founder of Paper Gallery and an ongoing curator of the Prishtina Biennale, he curates projects that center on post-conflict identity and memory, providing a space for artists to address Kosovo’s painful past.
