His work calls to mind the modernist experiments of Georges Braque and Jean Dubuffet as well as the traditional arts of Africa. Mabunda has exhibited at the Guggenheim Bilbao, the Centre Pompidou, the Mori Art Museum, and the Brooklyn Museum.
